Assuming that your information is safe online is dangerous. There are too many companies, advertisers and hackers that have too much to gain from your information to be complacent about your privacy.

Privacy on the internet is not a right, but a privilege that has to be achieved deliberately. According to a recent study, nearly 64 percent of Americans have had their private data exposed in a data breach.

Out of this 64 percent of Americans:

  • 41 percent faced fraudulent charges on their credit card.
  • 35 percent had sensitive information compromised.
  • 13 percent had someone steal control of one of their accounts.

There are many groups that are trying to access your data. One step to take before protecting your privacy is to determine which information is most valuable to the groups trying to access it. This information is what you need to focus on protecting most.
